1. Choose a Budget

  • It’s very important to work on a rough budget that you are willing to spend as it will help narrow your search in the initial stage

  • Make a price window, no need to circle into a close price range

  • Budget is important because Diamonds are available from ₹20,000 to ₹50,00,000

2. Choose the Diamond Shape

  • Besides the round/circular shape, there are different types of diamond shapes  available, namely, oval, princess etc. They are called Fancy Diamonds

  • Fancy Diamonds generally cost less than the round shape diamonds

  • Fancy diamonds can look bigger and cost less having the same carat weight compared to round shape diamonds

3. Know the best 4C's Combo

  • Knowing the best  4C’s Combo (Cut, Color, Clarity & Carat) ensures you get the best Value

  • It helps in identifying your diamond from a plethora of diamond choices

  • Our expert opinion on the most valuable 4C combination is listed below- through points 4 to 7

4. Cut

  • Cut is the combination of proportions of a diamond and not its outer shape

  • Most important of all the 4C’s -Prioritize this : A well-cut diamond reflects maximum light—sparkle you can see across a room.

  • Diamonds are graded by 'Excellent', 'Very Good', 'Good', 'Fair' & 'Poor'

  • A poorly cut (too shallow or too deep) can make a flawless diamond appear dull

  • Our recommendation grade: 'Excellent' or 'Very good'

5. Color

  • The value of a diamond goes up by the absence of color, that’s actually the most rare and therefore the most expensive.

  • They are graded as alphabets from D to Z (D being colorless)

  • Think with your eyes, to appreciate color you need to get closer, roughly three to six feet away

  • The metal color that is holding the diamond also affects your color choice

  • Our recommendation grade: Consider near-colorless G or H

6. Clarity

  • Most diamonds have tiny flaws that can only be seen with 10x magnification. For instance, SI grades aren't flawless, but still look great to the naked eye.

  • Diamonds grades indicating clarity are FL to I3 (FL being flawless)

  • Put clarity in perspective

  • Our recommendation grade: VVS1 TO SI1 (depending on budget)

7. Carat

  • Carat is about weight, not size.

  • Prices increase exponentially as carat weight goes up

  • Diamond prices jump significantly at the carat and half-carat marks. Purchasing just shy of those weights is a great way to stretch your hard earned rupees

  • When the cut, clarity and color are decided upon, your budget decides the carat weight

  • Our recommendation: This depends on the type of jewellery and budget

8. Other factors to consider

  • Diamonds may have the same 4c's and yet be of different prices. It's important to check these considerations

  • We prefer “NO BGM”

  • Polish - Our recommendation: Excellent or Very Good

  • Symmetry - Our recommendation: Excellent or Very Good

  • Fluorescence - Our recommendation: NONE
